Healthcare Preventions

  • In 2020, it was estimated that there were 225,800 new cases of cancer diagnosed in Canada, and 83,300 deaths due to cancer.

  • In Canada, there are screening programs for several types of cancer, including breast, cervical, colorectal, and lung cancer.

  • Screening programs in Canada are free of charge to eligible (based on age) individuals.

  • Most screening methods are non-invasive and safe.

  • People with a family history of certain cancers may need to begin screening earlier or more frequently.

  • Cancer screening is only one aspect of a comprehensive approach to cancer prevention, which includes healthy lifestyle habits and avoiding known risk factors.
